Best Booking App for Nail Techs in 2026: Which App or Booking Site Costs a Solo Tech Less

In short

The best booking app for a nail tech depends on where clients come from. If you need new clients, Booksy and StyleSeat list you on their marketplaces, and their optional promotions take 30% of the first visit from each client they bring. If Instagram and referrals already fill your book, a booking site without that fee costs less.

Most booking apps sold to nail techs do the same daily work: a booking page, reminders, a calendar on your phone and a way to take payment. Where they differ is what they charge you, and when. This guide is for the independent nail tech with one chair, a suite, a home studio or a booth in someone else's salon. It covers seven apps, prices six of them for one tech (Fresha's US prices could not be read), and shows what each takes from a new client's first visit and from every card payment.

How we built it: on October 2, 2026, we read each vendor's own pricing page, and its help center where the pricing page left a gap, and used US prices only. We read prices from the vendor's own pages, not from other review sites, and we did not test these apps hands-on, so every capability below is what the vendor states. Prices exclude tax. Twizzlo publishes this guide and sells booking software, so we have a commercial interest in your choice; our editorial policy explains how we handle that.

If you run a salon with several techs and walk-ins, our nail salon booking software page covers that setup, and our guide to the best nail salon software compares plans for teams of 3, 6 and 10 techs.

What should a nail tech look for in a booking app?

  • Service lengths that match the work. A gel fill, a full acrylic set and a set with hand-painted art need different blocks, and add-ons such as removal or art should add time as well as price.
  • Cleanup time between clients, so the next booking does not start while you are still sanitizing tools.
  • A way to protect long sets: money taken at booking, a no-show fee, or both.
  • Reminders by text or email, and a clear record of who confirmed.
  • Client notes that follow each client: shape, length, shade and any allergies or sensitivities.
  • A booking link you can put in your Instagram bio, on your Google profile and in text replies, so clients stop booking through direct messages.

Team tools such as staff pay reports and retail stock tracking matter to salon owners, not to a solo tech, and they are often what pushes a plan into a higher tier.

Booking app or booking site: where do your new clients come from?

The difference that costs money is whether the app charges you for clients it finds. Marketplace apps such as Booksy, StyleSeat and Vagaro list you where people search for a nail tech nearby, and each sells an optional promotion that takes a share of a new client's first visit. A booking site gives you a page and a link; the clients come from your own Instagram, Google profile and referrals. The pricing pages of GlossGenius, Square Appointments and Acuity Scheduling list no new-client fee.

Neither model is better on its own. If your chair has empty hours, paying a share of a first visit can cost less than advertising. If your book is already full from regulars, a discovery fee buys clients you do not need. Two details are worth knowing before you choose. Booksy says it charges nothing for new clients who book through your own profile link, even with Boost turned on, so share that link. And StyleSeat's help center lists a $2.35 booking fee that clients pay at the time of booking. For the two marketplaces side by side, see Booksy vs StyleSeat.

Which booking sites for nail techs charge for new clients?

Three of the six apps we could price publish a US fee for clients their promotion brings you, and all three promotions are optional. Fresha lists such a fee too, but its US amount could not be read. Figure 1 shows what each of the three takes as the price of the first visit rises.

Line chart of the fee a nail tech pays when a booking app's paid promotion brings a new client, by first-visit price from $0 to $200: Booksy Boost 30% with a $10 minimum, StyleSeat New Client Connection 30% capped at $50, and Vagaro Fill My Books 20%; at a $60 visit the fees are $18, $18 and $12.
Figure 1. What each app's optional new-client promotion takes from the first visit, by the price of that visit. Booksy Boost: 30%, $10 minimum, $100 maximum. StyleSeat New Client Connection: 30% of the service cost, $50 maximum. Vagaro Fill My Books: 20% of the price the client pays after the discount you set. Read on each vendor's pricing page or help center on October 2, 2026. Fresha is not plotted because its US fees could not be read.
App Optional promotion Fee on the new client's first visit Limits and conditions On a $60 first visit
Booksy Boost 30% of the visit's service price $10 minimum, $100 maximum; charged only if the visit takes place $18
StyleSeat New Client Connection 30% of the service cost of the first appointment $50 maximum; card processing applies on top $18
Vagaro Fill My Books (Get New Customers) 20% when a new customer books for the first time On the price after the discount you set; collected as a deposit at online booking $12

Read on each vendor's pricing page or help center on October 2, 2026. Sources are linked at the end of the article.

On a $60 first visit, Booksy Boost and StyleSeat's New Client Connection each take $18 and Vagaro's Fill My Books $12. The caps matter only for long, expensive sets: StyleSeat stops at $50, which it reaches on a $166.67 visit, and Booksy at $100. At the low end, Booksy's $10 minimum means a $25 polish change costs you $10, or 40% of that visit. Booksy charges Boost only for visits that take place, so mark a no-show on the same day.

Put that in a month. If a paid promotion brings six new clients at $55 each, Booksy and StyleSeat would each take $99, about what a month of card processing costs in the next section, and Vagaro would take $66. Booksy says later visits from that client carry no Boost fee, and StyleSeat's fee applies to the first appointment. Vagaro's last-minute campaign also charges 5% when a returning client books through it.

What does each app cost a solo nail tech per month?

The subscription is the smaller part of the bill for a busy tech. The table lists the plan one nail tech would buy, billed monthly, as each vendor's page showed it on October 2, 2026.

App Plan for one tech Monthly price Notes
Booksy Booksy subscription $29.99 plus tax $20 a month for each added team member; 14-day trial
StyleSeat StyleSeat Pro $19, a limited-time rate for new pros $199 a year option; the help center lists a $35 Premium Plan
GlossGenius Standard $28 ($24 billed annually) 14-day trial, no card required
Vagaro Base subscription, one calendar $23.99, a limited-time rate $10 a month per added calendar, up to seven licenses
Square Appointments Free, or Plus $0 or $49 per location Cancellation policy and no-show fees listed from Plus
Acuity Scheduling Starter $20 ($16 billed annually) One calendar; email reminders; text reminders from Standard at $34
Fresha Not compared US prices not read Pricing page showed Canadian dollars only from our location

US list prices before tax, read on each vendor's own pages on October 2, 2026. Plan detail for five of these vendors is linked in the app-by-app section below.

Card processing is the larger cost. Figure 2 adds it for a worked month: 60 appointments at $55, all paid by card tapped in person on the tech's phone, $3,300 in total. It is an illustration, not a measured average.

Stacked bar chart of one worked month for a solo nail tech, 60 card payments of $55 tapped in person: subscription plus card processing comes to $94.80 on Square Free, $113.80 on GlossGenius, $119.39 on Vagaro, $119.50 on StyleSeat, $124.16 on Booksy and $140.50 on Square Plus.
Figure 2. Worked example, not a measured average: one solo tech, 60 appointments at $55, all paid by card tapped in person ($3,300). Subscription billed monthly plus each app's published in-person rate, read October 2, 2026. StyleSeat at its $19 limited-time rate ($135.50 on the $35 Premium Plan in its help center); Vagaro at its $23.99 limited-time rate, FANF and Mastercard location fees extra; Booksy before tax. Acuity Scheduling is not plotted (rates depend on the payment provider you connect) and Fresha is not plotted (US prices not read).
App In-person rate used Processing on $3,300 Subscription Total
Square Appointments Free 2.6% + $0.15 $94.80 $0 $94.80
GlossGenius Standard 2.6% flat $85.80 $28 $113.80
Vagaro 2.6% + $0.16 tapped on a phone, under $4,000 a month $95.40 $23.99 $119.39
StyleSeat Pro 2.5% + $0.30 card present (help-center rate) $100.50 $19 $119.50
Booksy 2.49% + $0.20 Tap to Pay $94.17 $29.99 $124.16
Square Appointments Plus 2.5% + $0.15 $91.50 $49 $140.50

Same worked month as Figure 2. Booksy before tax. StyleSeat totals $135.50 on the $35 Premium Plan, and its pricing page offers new pros free payments during the trial, then 1.9% for six months. Vagaro's FANF and Mastercard location fees are extra.

Three things stand out. Processing cost more than the subscription for every app in this example. Square Free comes out lowest because it charges no subscription, though its plan card lists cancellation policy and no-show fees only from Plus. And GlossGenius's flat 2.6%, with no fixed fee per payment, is the cheapest rate per payment at a $55 ticket; at a smaller ticket the fixed fees elsewhere weigh more.

Payments taken online, such as a prepayment at booking, cost more on most apps: Square charges 3.3% + $0.30 online on Free and 2.9% + $0.30 on Plus, Booksy 2.69% + $0.30 for mobile and keyed-in payments, StyleSeat 2.6% + $0.30 for a card not present, and Vagaro 3.5% + $0.19 keyed-in. GlossGenius keeps its flat 2.6%.

How do you protect long sets from no-shows?

A full set with art takes far longer than a fill, so one no-show costs more. The tools are the same everywhere: take money when the client books, keep the right to charge a no-show fee, or both, and show the policy before the client confirms. What differs is which plan includes them.

App What the vendor lists Where it is included
Booksy No-show protection features In the subscription; standard mobile payment processing applies
StyleSeat Deposits and no-show protection; card on file with automatic checkout; late-cancellation policies you set StyleSeat Pro (pricing page)
GlossGenius Built-in deposits; cancellation and no-show policies; card-on-file policies Standard, Gold and Platinum
Vagaro Deposits and cancellation fees for online appointments Online Shopping Cart add-on, $10 a month in the US
Square Appointments Prepayments and appointment deposits; cancellation policy and no-show fees Prepayments and deposits in the plan grid; no-show fees from Plus at $49 a month per location
Acuity Scheduling Payments and deposits through Stripe, Square, PayPal or Venmo Every plan (Starter, Standard and Premium); a cancellation or no-show fee is not compared here

Feature names as each vendor prints them, read October 2, 2026.

Whatever you choose, write the policy before you turn it on: how far ahead clients can cancel, what a no-show costs and whether money paid at booking is refunded. Our guide to setting a no-show charge walks through the wording.

The seven apps, one at a time

Booksy

Booksy is a marketplace app for beauty and barber pros. One tech pays $29.99 a month plus tax, and each added team member is $20 a month. Appointment confirmations and reminders are included, and Booksy says clients book free through its customer app or your profile link. Boost, its optional promotion, takes 30% of a new client's first visit, with a $10 minimum and a $100 maximum. In person, Tap to Pay costs 2.49% + $0.20 and Booksy's card reader 2.49% + $0.10. Choose Booksy if you want to be found in a marketplace and will pay for each new client it brings. Plan detail: Booksy pricing.

StyleSeat

StyleSeat's pricing page offers StyleSeat Pro at $19 a month after the free trial, a limited-time rate that new pros keep once they join, for up to 15 chairs, with a $199 annual option. Its help center, read the same day, lists a $35 Premium Plan and card rates of 2.5% + $0.30 with the card present and 2.6% + $0.30 with the card not present, while the pricing page offers free payments during the trial and then 1.9% for six months. The help center does not mention StyleSeat Pro or the $19 rate, and the pricing page does not say which card rate applies after the six months. New Client Connection, which is optional, takes 30% of a new client's first appointment up to $50, and clients pay a $2.35 booking fee. Choose StyleSeat if marketplace exposure matters to you and you can lock in the offer rate.

GlossGenius

GlossGenius is a booking site and payments app for beauty pros. Standard, the plan for a solo tech, is $28 a month or $24 billed annually, with a 14-day trial and no card required. Every plan has a flat 2.6% processing rate with no extra fee for Tap to Pay, card-on-file or manually entered payments, and its feature table lists built-in deposits and cancellation and no-show policies on Standard. GlossGenius says client booking needs no login and no app. Choose GlossGenius if your book is full from regulars and you take most payments by card. Plan detail: GlossGenius pricing.

Vagaro

Vagaro's US help center lists the base subscription at $23.99 a month, a limited-time rate, with one bookable calendar; each added calendar is $10 a month up to seven licenses. A listing on the Vagaro Marketplace is free in the US. Fill My Books, an optional promotion, charges 20% when a new customer books for the first time, on the price after the discount you set. Deposits and cancellation fees for online bookings come with the Online Shopping Cart add-on at $10 a month. Under $4,000 a month in card sales, in-person payments cost 2.6% + $0.10 on a reader or 2.6% + $0.16 tapped on a phone, and keyed-in or online payments 3.5% + $0.19, with FANF and Mastercard location fees on top. Choose Vagaro if you want a free marketplace listing and do not mind adding the deposit add-on. Plan detail: Vagaro pricing.

Square Appointments

Square Appointments has a Free plan at $0 a month per location for solo professionals, with an online booking site, appointment reminders and unlimited staff calendars. Plus, at $49 a month per location, adds cancellation policy and no-show fees. In person, payments cost 2.6% + $0.15 on Free and 2.5% + $0.15 on Plus; online, 3.3% + $0.30 on Free and 2.9% + $0.30 on Plus. Choose Square if you want to start at $0 and add no-show fees later. Plan detail: Square Appointments pricing.

Acuity Scheduling

Acuity Scheduling is a general scheduler rather than a beauty app. Starter is $20 a month, or $16 billed annually, for one calendar with email reminders; text reminders appear on Standard at $34. Payments and deposits run through a Stripe, Square, PayPal or Venmo account you connect, at that provider's rates. Acuity offers a seven-day trial with no card required. Choose Acuity if you want a plain booking page and already take payments through one of those providers. Plan detail: Acuity Scheduling pricing.

Fresha

Fresha runs a client marketplace with booking and payments, and its pricing page lists an Independent plan, a Team plan, card rates and a fee on new clients from its marketplace. From our reading location on October 2, 2026, the page showed only Canadian-dollar prices, so this guide prints no Fresha figure. Ask Fresha for a dated US quote that covers the subscription, the new-client fee and card rates before you compare it with the others.

Where Twizzlo fits for a solo nail tech

Twizzlo is web-based online booking and appointment scheduling software for appointment-based service businesses, including nail techs. Free is $0 a month for up to 150 bookings, with no SMS, and it is free forever, not a trial. Business Pro is $29.99 a month per business, with unlimited bookings, 50 SMS a month and $0.03 for each text after that, and Business Pro comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Both plans include unlimited staff and locations. Online payments carry your Stripe processing rate plus a 1.5% Twizzlo platform fee. Support is available 24/7 at support@twizzlo.com.

For a nail tech, the parts that matter are a booking page open 24/7 with a booking link you can share, buffer times and custom booking rules for long sets, prepaid bookings at the full service price, a no-show fee setting you control, email reminders, text reminders on Business Pro, client profiles with notes, preferences and allergies, client self-rescheduling and tips at checkout. When a client skips a prepaid booking, you decide whether to keep or refund the money. The full list is on Twizzlo's features page.

Twizzlo does not run a consumer marketplace, so it fits businesses that already bring in their own clients. In this guide's terms it is a booking site: clients reach your page through the link you share.

Take the same worked month as Figure 2: 60 appointments at $55. Sixty bookings fit inside the Free plan's 150 a month, so the subscription would be $0 on Free, or $29.99 on Business Pro if you want text reminders. If all $3,300 were paid online through Twizzlo, the 1.5% platform fee would be $49.50 for the month, with Stripe processing at your account's rate on top. Staff can also record payments taken another way as manual payment records.

Twizzlo plan Subscription 1.5% platform fee on $3,300 paid online Also charged
Free $0 (up to 150 bookings a month, no SMS) $49.50 Stripe processing at your account's rate
Business Pro $29.99 a month per business $49.50 Stripe processing at your account's rate

Worked example only, using the same 60 appointments at $55 as Figure 2. Plan facts from the Twizzlo pricing page, read October 2, 2026.

Where it fits less well: if you need a marketplace to fill empty hours, an app with a paid promotion does that job. And a tech who takes nearly every payment online pays the 1.5% platform fee on each one, on top of Stripe processing, so compare that with the online card rates listed above before you choose. You can start on the Free plan and move to Business Pro when you need text reminders or more than 150 bookings a month; plan details are on Twizzlo pricing.

Which is the best booking site for nail techs in each situation?

  • Building a client list with empty hours: Booksy or StyleSeat, whose paid promotions find new clients for 30% of the first visit, or Vagaro, whose marketplace listing is free in the US and whose Fill My Books promotion takes 20% of a discounted first booking.
  • A full book from Instagram and referrals: a booking site with no new-client fee on its pricing page, such as GlossGenius Standard at $28 a month, Square Appointments Free at $0 or Acuity Scheduling Starter at $20. Twizzlo also fits this case (see the section above).
  • Long sets and a no-show problem: a plan whose price already includes protection, such as GlossGenius Standard (deposits and no-show policies), StyleSeat Pro (deposits and no-show protection) or Booksy (its no-show protection features). On Square, no-show fees start on Plus at $49 a month, and on Vagaro, deposits and cancellation fees for online bookings need the $10 Online Shopping Cart add-on.
  • Mostly card payments in person: compare card rates before subscriptions. In the worked month, processing cost more than any subscription in this guide.

How to test a booking app in one week

  1. Enter your real menu: a gel fill, a full set, removal and an art add-on, with the time each takes and the cleanup time after it.
  2. Book yourself from your phone through the link you will share, and note how many taps it takes and whether it asks you to sign in or install anything.
  3. Take money at booking on that test appointment, then find the payment in the payout report and check the fee actually taken.
  4. Cancel inside your cancellation window and check that the policy applies the way you wrote it.
  5. Read the reminder that arrives: when it was sent, by text or email, and whether texts are limited by plan.
  6. If you turn on a marketplace promotion, check how its fee appears on the first visit and how to mark a no-show.
  7. If you are moving from a salon chair to your own suite, ask your current app how to take your client list with you, and the new app how to bring it in.

Trials differ. Booksy and GlossGenius offer 14 days, Acuity Scheduling seven days, and StyleSeat is free to join, with its rate starting once you take bookings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best booking app for a nail tech who is just starting out?

One that is cheap to run while you build a client list. On October 2, 2026, Square Appointments Free cost $0 a month per location, and the marketplace apps Booksy ($29.99 a month plus tax) and StyleSeat ($19 a month on a limited-time offer for new pros) could find new clients for a share of their first visit.

Is it better to book nail clients through Instagram or a booking app?

Use each for a different job. Instagram shows your work, but booking through direct messages leaves you answering availability questions between clients, with no money taken up front and no automatic reminder. A booking link in your bio lets clients pick a time, pay if you require it and get reminders.

Which nail booking apps charge a fee for new clients?

As read on October 2, 2026: Booksy Boost takes 30% of a new client's first visit ($10 minimum, $100 maximum), StyleSeat's New Client Connection takes 30% of the first appointment up to $50, and Vagaro's Fill My Books takes 20% of a new customer's first booking after the discount you set. All three are optional.

How much does a booking app cost a solo nail tech each month?

On October 2, 2026, the plan a solo tech would buy cost $0 to $49 a month across the apps priced here, before tax. Card processing can cost more: in a worked month of 60 payments of $55 tapped in person, it ran from $85.80 on GlossGenius to $100.50 on StyleSeat.

Do clients need an app to book a nail appointment?

Not with most tools. GlossGenius says its client booking needs no login and no app, and Square Appointments, Vagaro and Acuity Scheduling give you a booking website or page that opens from a link. Booksy and StyleSeat also run consumer apps where clients can find and book you.

How can a nail tech reduce no-shows on long sets?

Take money when the client books, set a no-show fee, and send a reminder before the appointment. Check that the plan you buy includes those tools: on October 2, 2026, Square listed no-show fees from its $49 Plus plan, and Vagaro sold deposits for online bookings as a $10 monthly add-on.

Sources and methodology

Method: desk research on each vendor's own pricing page and help center, read on October 2, 2026, using US prices only; no hands-on product testing. Worked examples use stated hypothetical inputs (60 appointments at $55 a month) and are not measured averages. Prices exclude tax.

Vendor prices and offers change, and two in this guide are limited-time rates (StyleSeat and Vagaro). Everything above was read from the vendors' own pages on October 2, 2026; check the live pages before you sign up or switch.
